Dr. Elan Singer MD Breast Augmentation Surgeon in New York NY

Nowadays, women are becoming more conscious not only about their health but also their physique. A common concern is breast size. The differences in the breast size in relation to changes like post-pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, and aging play a role in a woman’s decision to undergo surgery.  Breast augmentation, also known as breast enhancement, is performed by plastic surgeons using breast implants to give a woman fuller and larger breasts and oftentimes, improving her self esteem. Elan B. Singer, MD is a highly skilled and qualified doctor of EBS plastic surgery ( http://www.ebsplasticsurgery.com/ ) in Manhattan, NY. Dr. Singer is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Some things women consider when making the decision to undergo a breast augmentation:

  • Have my breasts become smaller after losing weight?
  • Did my breasts change shape and lose firmness after my pregnancy?
  • Do my clothes look larger at my bust line?
  • Am I self conscious wearing form-fitted tops?
  • Is one of my breasts smaller than the other?

Consultation time

During the consultation, desired breast size, type and placement of implants, pre and post op directions and anything else you have questions about will be discussed with Dr. Singer.  This is in order to help Dr. Singer understand your desired outcome and determine the best approach to achieve your expectations.

Surgeon’s evaluation matters

Dr. Singer will perform a physical examination  and breast examination which will include notation of the size and shape of your breasts as well as your skin quality and location of your nipples and areolas. Dr. Singer may also recommend a breast lift if your breasts are very ptotic (sagging), however, this can oftentimes be avoided with placement of the breast implant alone.

Your medical history will also be discussed during your consultation. This will include information about past and present medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments and hospitalizations including medications, previous surgeries and biopsies, and family histories (such as cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and so on). Mammograms might be asked as additional screening tool prior to the procedure.

Are you planning to lose weight or become pregnant prior to your procedure? If so, you should mention this to Dr. Singer as well. There is no evidence showing that breast implants affect pregnancy. However, pregnancy can be a factor in breast size alteration and can unpredictably affect the result of your breast augmentation.
